Astigmatism and Limbal Relaxing Incisions

Limbal Relaxing Incisions

Limbal Relaxing Incisions (LRI) are used to treat low to moderate degrees of astigmatism. As the name implies they are a set of incisions made at the periphery of the clear cornea, where the white sclera meets the clear cornea (limbus). LRIs allow the cornea to relax and take up a rounder shape. The rounder shape allows light rays to focus correctly at one point on the retina for clear vision.
